The End of the Eras Era – It’s Taylor’s Night, Swifties

Taylor Swift ends The Eras Tour tonight. Her opening act, Gracie Abrams, is on stage as we speak. I adore Gracie. Because she was a fan of Taylor first, her emotion tonight is just adding to the overall feeling us Swifties have about tonight. I had the intention of writing a long post about The Eras Tour. I plan on writing more about what the tour has meant to so many. I plan on doing that still.

But for now, I had a few thoughts to share.

– The Eras Tour has given us as fans nearly two years of evidence of what girls and women are like together – in pure, unadulterated feminine joy and sisterhood. Countless cities have said it was a joy to have Swifties in their cities for Eras shows (and they brought in millions and millions in revenue). Men who attend with their Swifties have commented on the “immaculate vibes,” and women say they’ve never felt safer being in (sometimes) unknown to them cities, surrounded by people they don’t know (except that they’re other Swifties). It has fully cemented my belief that women at our core, without the shit the patriarchy has wrought, are world changers. And we should never, ever dim the spirit we bring into any room.

-Taylor has now set another record and Eras is the highest grossing tour of all time. She has blown past countless records this year with The Tortured Poets Department. She is enshrined in history as one of the most successful musicians of all time. She has done it writing all of her own music – with contributors and by herself. Over a year ago, she met a Jabroni that plays pro football and now Swifties have adopted him and his family too. She seems to be the happiest I’ve ever seen her. She is on top of the world professionally, and I hope . . . personally. Which brings me to #3 . . .

-Taylor will take the stage in about a half hour. Tonight’s show has a lot of expectations and/or emotion riding on it for us as fans. But if you’re a fan who is or will be upset by Taylor not announcing “more” tonight or meeting our “clowning” expectations, it’s time to take a step back. Tonight is Taylor’s night. She can do whatever the hell she wants. She usually does. But, this has been the biggest, wildest, most successful period of Taylor’s life. So much has changed in her life and her success is at intense levels that few artists reach. This should be her night. It should be for her crew, her dancers, her band, and all in her organization – to include her parents who have spent much of the last two years with her on the road. They’ve put in so much time to take this tour all over the world. It has honestly been far more than a concert tour with countless Swifties (new and old) talking about what it has meant for them and that it has changed their lives. When I share more, I’ll explain what that looks like, but here is one example. Let her do her thing – whatever that is. If she’s filming again and doesn’t change a thing, let her. If she’s filming because it’s the last night and it’s a big freaking spectacle, let her do her thing. If she announces new re-records (Taylor’s Versions), if she doesn’t or if she announces a documentary, her movie project, or nothing at all . . . let her do her thing.

Taylor has had an incredible career to this point and unlike most in the music industry, she gave fans incredible access to her and has done a great deal for fans (like this, as one example). She has given us as fans so much. She is generous to us and is the most prolific writer and musician I know of. Look at the list of album releases and dates for a reminder.

Let this be her night without expectation. Taylor writes songs that have always found me where I’m at. Like this, this, and this as just a few examples from over 18 years. Let her have her night.

She’ll be back with a new Era any day now (if nothing new is announced tonight). She’s Taylor Freaking Swift, after all. She’s already showing us what the next Era will look like . . .
