Would it Matter – Poems of Longing & Hope

Three separate thoughts came to mind this evening. Turns out there’s a connection between all three – longing and hope.

Would it Matter?

If I told you I needed you,
Would it matter?
If I said I needed you now,
Would you come to me?
Never mind. I know the answer.
Would it help if I said I missed you?
I know, I know. But I miss you.
It has been too many days since
I heard your voice & saw your face.
One day is too many.

Hope is beautiful and dangerous. It is action, like love.
It’s not a feeling. I’m convinced of this now after losing it.
Finding it again is an act of defiance and rebellion.
Hope is the hardened place in your heart that keeps you
Moving forward in spite of what everything around you
Tells you to believe. Hope is dangerous and leads
To radical faith, in spite of it all. I have chased hope.
I have found her – bloody and bruised, but resolute.

If I get to wake up next to you, when we
Reach our someday, I hope you know
That I won’t forget the miracle of us.
I won’t forget to cling to this, even when
We do it the hard way.
